Information VIII (Shortwave)

2004
Sound installation. The installation consists of 8 shortwave radio receivers, an audio mixer, and speakers. The radio receivers are each tuned to a station with the best reception. This changes during the day/week/year due to different factors:
°Time of day. During the day, higher shortwave frequencies (> 10 MHz) can travel longer distances than lower; at night, this property is reversed.
°Solar conditions, including the number of sunspots, solar flares, and overall solar activity. Solar flares can prevent the ionosphere from reflecting or refracting radio waves.
 °The amount of atmospheric noise.
The installation was made at gallery Titanik, Turku; Finland, 2004

A mix of the sounds from the installation was released on KNING DISK as “shortwave:mix/shortwave:feed” (Art 001)
